Prince William County Quick Facts
Prince William County Adult Detention Center
The Prince William County Adult Detention Center is a regional facility at 9320 Lee Avenue, Manassas, VA 20110. It serves the county, the towns of Occoquan, Quantico, Triangle, Dumfries, and Haymarket, along with the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. The Sheriff's Office main location sits at 9311 Lee Avenue, just across from the jail. Under Virginia Code § 53.1-31, the Sheriff is the legal custodian of all jail records.
The Inmate Records unit handles charges, court status, court dates, bond information, and release date calculations for everyone held at the ADC. If a judge sentences someone to one day through twelve months, the Detention Center figures out the release date. If the term is one year or longer, the case moves to the Virginia Department of Corrections, which then sets the release date and handles parole eligibility. The ADC can only confirm information on people currently in custody there. They do not release information on former inmates or people being transported.
To ask about a specific inmate, call 703-792-5811 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After hours, call 703-792-6420. You can also visit the PWC Inmate Records page for instructions. For people held at the Prince William County Police Garfield substation rather than the main ADC, call 703-792-7200.
The ADC general information page has a complete overview of the facility, services, and contact details.
This page covers visitation procedures, inmate mail rules, and service contacts for the Prince William-Manassas Regional ADC.
Note: The ADC cannot confirm information on juvenile inmates or on people who are no longer in custody or in transport.
Search the Prince William Inmate Population
Virginia VINE is the fastest online tool for checking on someone at the Prince William County ADC. Go to vinelink.com or vavine.org, pick Virginia, then select the Prince William facility. You get custody status right away. You can also register for free alerts if an inmate is released, transferred, or escapes. Alerts come by phone, email, text, or TTY. VINE is available around the clock and your search stays anonymous.
The county also publishes an Adult Arrests list through the Prince William County Sheriff's Office. That list shows arrest date, name, address, charges, and case number for recent bookings by Prince William County Police and other agencies in the county. Records are typically updated within 24 to 48 hours. The list is public under Virginia law and is sorted alphabetically by last name. It is a good starting point if you are trying to confirm a recent arrest rather than a current custody status.
For people who have already moved to state prison, skip VINE and use the VADOC Offender Locator. Enter the last name and at least the first letter of the first name. Results show inmate ID, current facility, and projected release date.
Note: VINE covers only current inmates at the ADC. Once transferred to a VADOC facility, use the VADOC Offender Locator instead.

VADOC and Prince William County Inmates
Prince William County falls in the VADOC Central Region. Inmates from the county who receive sentences over twelve months transfer to state facilities once VADOC completes intake and classification. That process usually takes up to sixty days after the final sentencing order. While they wait at the ADC, the county still holds custody. After transfer, VADOC sets all release and parole dates.
The VADOC Central Region holds facilities including Baskerville Correctional Center at (434) 447-3857, Coffeewood Correctional Center at (540) 829-6483, Dillwyn Correctional Center at (434) 983-4200, Buckingham Correctional Center at (434) 983-4400, and Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women at (434) 984-3700. The actual placement depends on security level, program needs, and available bed space. See the full list on the VADOC facilities and offices page.
VADOC Victim Services handles state-prison notifications through the NAAVI system. For local ADC notifications, use VINE. The two systems are separate. Register for both if the person moves from local custody to state prison.
Prince William County Court Records
The Clerk of Circuit Court holds the case file for everyone in the Prince William inmate population. The file has the charge, the plea, the verdict, and the sentencing order. The Sheriff holds the jail record. Both offices keep separate records, and you may need both if you want a complete picture.
The Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System lets you search Prince William Circuit Court and General District Court cases by name, free of charge. Prince William County falls in the Thirty-First Judicial Circuit. Cases appear online once the clerk enters them, which usually happens within a day of filing. For printed copies of court documents, there is a fee at the clerk's window. For criminal history records through the Virginia State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, visit the State Police records page. Requests go to P.O. Box 85076, Richmond, VA 23261-5076. The FOIA Officer at VSP can be reached at 804-674-2642.
Requesting Prince William Inmate Population Records
Virginia residents have the right to ask for jail logs, booking sheets, charges, and custody status under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act at § 2.2-3700 et seq. You do not need to give a reason for your request. The Prince William County Sheriff's Office must respond within five business days, with up to seven extra days if the request is complex.
Some records are exempt. Active investigation files, personnel records, and attorney-client material cannot be released. Inmates themselves are blocked from using FOIA to get records under § 2.2-3703(C). If a request is denied or delayed, the Virginia FOIA Advisory Council can help. They take questions at foiacouncil@dls.virginia.gov or by phone at (804) 698-1810, toll-free at 1-866-448-4100. For state prison records, VADOC Central Records is at 6900 Atmore Drive, Richmond, VA 23225, phone (804) 674-3000.
Note: Written FOIA requests sent to the Sheriff's Office or the county records office typically get a response within five to twelve business days.
Victim Services for Prince William Inmates
Crime victims tracking someone in the Prince William County ADC should register through Virginia VINE at vavine.org or by calling 1-800-467-4943. VINE sends free, anonymous alerts when an inmate is released, transferred, escapes, or dies. You can choose to get alerts by phone, email, text, or TTY. You do not have to give your name to search, but registration requires contact information for alerts.
Once an inmate transfers to a VADOC state prison, VINE no longer tracks them. At that point, register with VADOC's NAAVI system by visiting the VADOC Victim Services page or calling 1-804-674-3243. VADOC provides 30-day advance release notice and notifications for parole events, work release, name changes, escape, and recapture. The two systems do not share registration, so if someone moves from local to state custody, sign up for both.
